Good, with realistic expectations
Good book. The writing is direct and the author is honest about limits.
There is a particular kind of technical book that is dense without being difficult, and this is one of them. The writing is direct and does not waste space on filler, which I value in a technical book. There is a section near the end that ties several earlier ideas together in a way I had not seen before. Worth picking up if you already have the basics. Set realistic expectations and you will get a lot out of it.
Finally, a book that treats webgpu with the care it deserves.
I read this over a couple of weekends alongside a small side project, which turned out to be the ideal way to approach it. I appreciated the honesty about what the book does not cover — it saved me from expecting things that were not there. The writing is direct and does not waste space on filler, which I value in a technical book. The examples are small enough to type out and experiment with, which is exactly what I want from a book like this. Worth the money and the reading time, without hesitation.
It does the job, though it took some patience to get through.
I was looking for something that would bridge the gap between tutorials and proper reference material, and this does that well. Some terminology is introduced without much ceremony; I had to look a few things up along the way. A couple of chapters felt like they could have been merged, but that is a minor complaint. The examples are small enough to type out and experiment with, which is exactly what I want from a book like this. Three stars feels about right. It will stay on my shelf, but it will not be the first one I reach for.
The clearest explanation of data visualization I have come across.
This is the third book I have read on data visualization this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. Some of the material is available elsewhere, but rarely presented this clearly. It is denser than the page count suggests, and I found myself slowing down around the middle. I have already recommended it to two colleagues and will recommend it to more.
Good book. The writing is direct and the author is honest about limits.
A colleague recommended this and I can see why. It does something that few technical books manage: it respects the reader's time. The author is unusually honest about where the simplifications break down, which I appreciated. The writing is direct and does not waste space on filler, which I value in a technical book. The author avoids over-explaining, which keeps the pace up but means you need to pay attention. Solid, and I would buy another book from this author without hesitation.
I got a lot out of this, even if a few sections felt rushed.
I have been working with graphics & design for a few years now and I still found plenty here that was new to me. The code samples assume a particular environment, which took a bit of fiddling to get running properly. The author is unusually honest about where the simplifications break down, which I appreciated. Solid, and I would buy another book from this author without hesitation.
